Winners of 2024 T&A Education Awards announced at glitzy ceremony

It was a night of enjoyment for the audience and delight for the winners of the 2024 awards, which were held in partnership with Bradford College.

The ceremony, held at the Mercure Bradford Bankfield Hotel in Bingley, celebrate the fantastic people making a difference in the education sector across the district.

A special supplement will appear in the T&A next Wednesday, containing more pictures from the event and reaction from the winners.

In the category for Primary or early years school teacher, the winner was Sarah Dickinson of Blakehill primary.

Zaynab Mahmood, of Feversham Girls Academy, won Secondary School Teacher of the Year.

Simon Wade, of Beckfoot School Bingley, scooped the prize for Headteacher/Principal.

The primary or early years school award was won by Carlton Mills Primary School.

Hazelbeck Special School won Secondary school of the Year.

Michelle Fletcher, of Thorpe Primary School, took the award for Supporting staff member.

Marshfield Primary School took the award for Community Involvement.

Helen Derham, of Low Ash Primary School, was named the Governor of the Year.

The Star Student award was won by Thea Kaur Regan, of St Bedes and St Joseph's Catholic College.

The Special Recognition Award went to Doreen Taylor.

On receiving the Headetacher/Principal award, Mr Wade said: “I’m thrilled, I really am and shocked. It means a great deal to me.

“I’ll see my staff tomorrow and just let them know and thank them because I work with the most incredible team of people I’ve ever worked with in 30 years. The other side of things is the kids I get to work with every day – over 1,600 of them – are absolutely incredible. I’m outside all the time with them. I don’t get it right all the time, we’re not perfect, but we try hard every day to make a difference and I think we get it right more often than we get it wrong.”

Steve Lowe, Sales Director at Sales Director at LOCALiQ, said: “It was great to be once again running the Education Awards here in the district. We are all aware of the importance of giving our young the very best start in life and teachers and support staff through there guidance, encouragement and support are instrumental in this.

“In partnership with Bradford College we have celebrated students, educators and the entire educational community with our gala awards and I was so proud to have been able to put on such a worthwhile night.

“Well done to all those that got shortlisted, we heard so many great stories and I really enjoyed reading every nomination we received, and an even bigger well done to the winners.

“I must also say thanks to each category sponsor, who share the same view of how important showcasing education is, we can’t run them without their support.”
