A major incident has been declared as several people have been injured after a car crashed into The Study Preparatory School in Wimbledon.

Police officers were called just before 10am to the school in Camp Road and several people are being treated for injuries.

London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade are at the scene, with the fire brigade sending two fire engines and two fire rescue units.

MP for Wimbledon Stephen Hammond tweeted: “Very concerned to hear about the Study Preparatory School at Camp Road this morning.

“A major incident has been declared and I know all emergency services are on site.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone at The Study.”

In a statement made to the BBC, Hammond said that there were “a number of casualties”, although the number has not yet been confirmed by emergency services.

He added: "It's extremely distressing and extremely concerning.

"There are a number of casualties, I'm not sure how many."

The village was described by Hammond as being “remote”, situated a mile from Wimbledon Village and on route to a number of nearby golf clubs.
