A North East bus company is bringing in a fleet of new buses for passengers in Darlington - with free wi-fi and USB plugs.

Arriva North East is launching 14 new Euro 6 Low Emission buses across its services in the town as it splashes out £3m on the fleet.

The new fleet will be unveiled at 4pm Sunday, November 20, at the Christmas Light Switch on in the Market Square.

Members of the public will then have the chance to get onboard and try out the new buses before anyone else.

And to make things even more exciting, one of the buses has been decorated with a festive-livery with festive games and the chance to make your own Christmas cards.

Meanwhile, staff will be on hand to offer the opportunity to send personalised letters to Santa himself.

Kim Purcell, Arriva Northeast Commercial Director said “We are delighted to be able to commit such a strong level of investment into our bus network in Darlington.

"We recognise public transport as one of the keyways to help protect our environment for the future and save our planet.

" That is why we are proud to be introducing fourteen ultra-low emission vehicles into our fleet.

"The new buses also show our commitment in working with the Tees Valley Enhanced bus Partnership.”

Cllr Jonathan Dulston, leader of Darlington Borough Council, said:  “I am pleased to see this level of investment in Darlington by Arriva, bringing new, low-emission vehicles to our roads.

“So many people rely on the bus network to get to school, work and personal appointments and a reliable service is vital.

"I look forward to continuing to work with Arriva to get the best possible service for everyone.”
