A leak in a Merton road has caused a bus stop to be closed for the past five months – but Thames Water still can’t figure out where the leak is coming from.

Water in Manor Road in Mitcham has closed the Robinhood Lane bus stop since November 2021.

Local woman Pollyanna said the water in the road smells and doesn’t understand why it is taking to long to be fixed.

The 43-year-old has sciatica, which means the walk to the next bus stop can be more difficult for her.

She said it takes her about 15 minutes, which she does daily to take her 10-year-old daughter to school.

She said: “I moved here in September there was always water and a smell in the road.

"Then in November they put something saying the bus stop would be closed from November  11-16 for it to be fixed.

"When it wasn’t I started sending them tweets, they then told me it would be fixed on April 1 but it is still there and it’s really horrible.”

The bus stop serves the 118 route which runs between Brixton and Morden. Thames Water has said it will widen its search to find out where the water is leaking from.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “We know how frustrating it is when potential water leaks aren’t fixed quickly, and in most cases the source of the leak is obvious and we can repair them in good time.

“In this case however the source of the water isn’t obvious and our extensive investigations have so far not been able to identify any leaks on our pipes.

"We’ve had engineers in the area day and night to try and trace where the water is coming from and will widen our search until we find out.”
