A man was fined more than £500 for attending an outdoor gathering in Thamesmead while the country was in strict lockdown.

Samuel Ogundor, 23, of Hever Court Road, Gravesend, “participated in a gathering” on Bazalgette Way, near Southmere Lake, where two or more people were in attendance “without reasonable excuse”, on January 20, 2021.

London was in Tier 4 at the time, which saw people only allowed to leave home for essential purposes, such as to buy food and medical supplies, or for daily exercise.

Mr Ogundor was found guilty at Westminster Magistrates' Court on January 5, 2022.

He was fined at initial £440 for the offence, an extra £44 to fund victim services and £100 for the costs of the Crown Prosecution Service.

Mr Ogundor was given until February 2 to pay the total figure of £584.
