A resident at Kew House Care Home in Wimbledon has celebrated her 106th birthday with friends and family.

Eileen Knight celebrated her 106th birthday on Sunday, December 5.

Eileen received her sixth card from the Queen congratulating her on her milestone.

She also received 225 cards from the local community, following an appeal on social media.

Eileen’s day was spent with daughter Pauline, son in law Peter, son Graham, and grandson Nicholas.

She also was visited by the Mayor of Merton, Cllr Michael Brunt, as well as Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond.

Her birthday was celebrated with two parties, one for residents and team members and the other with her immediate family.

Eileen said: “I had a wonderful day.

“My secret to longevity is all of the good food I had when I was a small child, where my father was able to bring home excess vegetables, fruit and eggs from the house where he worked.”

Wimbledon Times:

Eileen was born in Addlestone, Surrey, on December 5, 1915.

At the age of thirteen, Eileen attended the commercial college in Kingston-on-Thames.

On the train from Addlestone to Kingston, she met her late husband, Donald.

The couple married in 1940 after Donald was employed as a mechanic and aircraft fitter for the Royal Airforce during World War Two.

They went on to have two children, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Eileen worked at an Antique Shop in Weybridge followed by working in the office at United Dairies in Hersham before having a career break to have children.

She returned to work and took a job in the account’s office of a firm of solicitors in Addlestone in 1967.

General Manager at Kew House Care Home, Victoria Oladosu said: “Eileen has been a resident at Kew House for almost three years and she is much-loved by all of us here.

“I am so pleased to hear that she had a great day, it’s not every day you turn 106 and she thoroughly deserves it.”
