A man sadly died after he was hit by a train at Sutton station yesterday (Monday, October 25).

As the Sutton Guardian reported, emergency services including paramedics and transport police attended the scene on Monday afternoon as rail operators described a "tragic" incident in which a person had been hit by a train.

Responding to a request for comment, a spokesperson for London Ambulance Service confirmed that a person had been pronounced dead at the scene.

"We were called at 3.57pm yesterday (25 October) to reports of a person hit by a train at Sutton train station.

"We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

"Sadly the patient died at the scene," the spokesperson told the Sutton Guardian.

British Transport Police confirmed those details, adding that the deceased was a man.

They also said the incident was "not being treated as suspicious" and that a report for the coroner would be prepared.

"Officers were called to Sutton station at 3.56pm yesterday (Monday 25 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner," a spokesperson said.

The incident brought disruption and delays to rail users on Monday evening but all lines had reopened by around 8.30pm.

Southern Railway offered support via the Samaritans charity at the end of a thread of tweets related to the incident on Monday evening: "We work closely with @samaritans and support the work they do. If you or someone close to you has been affected by this or any incident, there is always someone to talk to. Contact Samaritans on 116 123 free at any time, on any phone.
