Chart-topping rapper Dizzee Rascal has denied assaulting a woman, believed to be his girlfriend, at a home in south London this summer.

The grime artist, whose real name is Dylan Kwabena Mills, pleaded not guilty at Croydon Magistrates' Court on September 3 to assault by beating at a residential address in Streatham on June 8.

The 36-year-old attended court wearing a dark suit and tie, and appeared to be talking on his mobile phone as he arrived.

The rapper behind chart-topping singles Bonkers and Dance Wiv Me was charged with assaulting his partner Cassandra Jones back in August.

Appearing in the dock today to deny his charges, the court heard he “denies pushing his head into (her) head and denies pushing her to the floor”.

Dizzee Rascal will now stand trial on February 18 next year.

Ms Jones and her mother are due to be witnesses in the trial, while Rascal’s manager is also expected to be called to give evidence.

“He received a phone call when the altercation is said to have taken place”, said defence counsel Iskander Fernandez.

“He received a detailed account which was very much at odds with what the complainant said.”

The Metropolitan Police previously said the alleged victim reported minor injuries after an incident at a residential address in Streatham.

In a statement last month, the Met Police said: “Dylan Mills, 36, of Sevenoaks, Kent, has been charged with assault after an incident at a residential address in Streatham on June 8.

“Officers attended and a woman reported minor injuries. She did not require hospital treatment."
