Two woman were taken to hospital after they managed to escape a house fire in Morden during the weekend.

The fire, which London Fire Brigade (LFB) said "destroyed" the ground floor of the south London home, broke out at a mid-terraced house on Green Lane in Morden on Saturday (August 21).

Fire crews from four different fire stations (Sutton, Mitcham, Wimbledon and Wallington) were called the scene of the blaze around 2.12am on Saturday.

An LFB spokesperson said that the a child was treated nearby in addition to the two women taken to hospital:

"The ground floor of a mid-terraced house was destroyed by fire and part of the loft area was also damaged by the blaze. One child was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews and two women were taken to hospital," a statement from the brigade read.

Meanwhile, the cause of the blaze is now under investigation, with both LFB and London's Metropolitan Police Service investigating.
