It's been a long time coming, but London is finally in for some sun at the end of this week.

The Met Office is forecasting a dry week which will end with some brighter weather over the course of the weekend.

Though not blazing hot, bank holiday is currently forecast to see highs of 22 degrees.

According to the Met Office, London has already exceeded its average monthly rainfall for August - so some dry weather will be welcomed.

The week will start off sunny on Tuesday before becoming more cloudy over the middle of the week.

The sun is then set to shine on Saturday and Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Met Office did warn, however, that there where there might be some warmer weather, the risk of rain and thunder does still persist.

They told the News Shopper: "As August comes to its close, temperatures are expected to be around average with some warmer spells possible.

"There could well be some more settled conditions coming across southern areas with some dry weather but that doesn’t preclude from intermittent heavy rain and some showers.

"There are no huge signals for particularly warm heatwave conditions in August and the risk of thunder in the forecast does persist.”

Monday: Perhaps on the cloudy side in places to start, but it will soon brighten up to reveal warm sunny spells for most. Feeling a little cooler in eastern coastal districts in particular, with a northeasterly breeze developing. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Monday night: Dry with clear spells overnight. Remaining breezy in eastern coastal districts, however lighter winds inland may help lead to local mist or fog patches. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Tuesday: A fine day, with sunny spells developing widely after locally cloudier starts. Remaining breezy in coastal districts although feeling warm in shelter. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Settled but breezy at times through this period, with some warm sunny spells by day, although perhaps more generally cloudy and damp early Thursday. Temperatures falling a little below average.
