Emergency services rushed to a multi-vehicle crash after reports that a lorry was driving on the wrong side of the road in Mitcham yesterday.

Police were called to a crash near Mitcham Town Centre shortly before 1pm on Monday (August 2).

According to eyewitnesses, a lorry was driving on the wrong side of the road by Upper Green East.

An eyewitness told Wimbledon Times: "A lorry was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit loads of bollards.

"Lots of people were shouting and a big crowd gathered near the bus stop."

Another eyewitness alerted residents through Next Door, she wrote: "Big accident in centre of Mitcham.

"A large lorry crossed into the opposite lane, demolishing bollards and cars and vans on the opposite pavement.

"But worst ploughed into a car coming the opposite way, powerful enough to turn it sideways and the lorry just kept on going and pushing the car and those behind."

A spokesperson for Met Police said: "Police were called at approximately 12.40hrs to reports of a collision between a lorry and multiple stationary vehicles.

"Officers and LAS attended the scene.

"No injuries or road closures.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
