Two people were injured in a crash that involved a police car in Merton yesterday evening (Thursday, January 14), forcing road closures in the area.

Social media users posted images of a cluster of emergency service workers at the scene of the crash, which took place on Manor Road in Merton in the moments before 8pm on Thursday night.

Paramedics, fire crews and a number of police officers could be seen in photographs of the scene, with a damaged police car also visible.

Responding to a request for comment from the Wimbledon Times, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:

"Shortly before 20:00hrs on Thursday, 14 January, a marked police vehicle collided with a car on Manor Road in Mitcham.

"Additional officers and the London Ambulance Service are in attendance.

"Road closures are in place."

London Ambulance Service (LAS) confirmed their attendance and said that two people had been treated at the scene, with one being taken onto hospital: 

"We were called at 7.57pm yesterday (14 January) to reports of a road traffic collision on Northborough Road, Mitcham.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene, including three ambulance crews, a medic in a car, an incident response officer, and our hazardous area response teams. We also dispatched a London Air Ambulance trauma team by car.

"Four people – two men and two women – were treated at the scene. One of them was taken to hospital," a spokesperson for LAS said. 

London Fire Brigade (LFB) meanwhile said that one of those at the scene, a man, had to be released from a vehicle by fire crews: 

"Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Northborough Road at the junction with Rowan Road in Mitcham last night (Thursday).

"Two cars were in collision. Firefighters released a man from one of the vehicles," a spokesperson said.
