A man has been pronounced dead on Figges Marsh in Mitcham this morning (Sunday, December 13).

Reports of a heavy emergency services presence on the green space surfaced around 10.30am on Sunday morning.

Witnesses reported seeing police forensics team and a tent in the area, plus a number of ambulances.

Responding to a request from the Wimbledon Times, a spokesperson for London Ambulance Service (LAS) confirmed that they had attempted to treat a man at the scene, before sadly pronouncing him dead.

"We were called today (Sunday 13) at 7.52am to reports of an incident in Figges Marsh fitness park, Streatham Road, Mitcham.

"We sent a number of resources including an ambulance, a medic in a response car, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer.

"Sadly, despite our efforts a man was pronounced dead at the scene," the spokesperson said.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed their presence at the scene and that a man had been declared dead there. 

"Police attended Figges Marsh, Mitcham, shortly before 08:00hrs on Sunday, 13 December after being notified by London Ambulance Service that a man had been taken ill.

"Despite the efforts of the emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"His next of kin have been informed. His death is not being treated as suspicious."
