POUNDLAND in Stockton is to feature in a fly-on-the-wall TV documentary showing how the discount retailer is undergoing the biggest transformation in its history.

The first of two episodes of Inside Poundland: Secrets from the Shop Floor, will be shown on Channel 4 on Monday December 7, followed by the second instalment a week later.

The show gives behind the scenes insight into the workings of the store and follows the drama in Stockton-on-Tees where Poundland is moving to a new site in the High Street.

Viewers watch as the tension mounts as colleagues wait to see whether all their hard work will pay off and attract customers to the new location.

Area manager Colin Smith said: “Everyone at the store is really excited to be part of the show and we hope our customers in Stockton enjoy getting a peak behind the scenes.”

Colin, who has been with Poundland for 16-years and lives in Bishop Auckland, added: “The best thing about my area is the culture, the pace and the energy of the people.”

Asked who would play him if Hollywood came knocking to turn the TV series into a blockbuster movie he joked: “My partner says it should be Gerard Butler.”

As well as a behind the scenes view of what goes on in stores and the customer support centres every day, it follows the opening of a new store, the rollout of chilled and frozen food and the launch of the new PEP&CO homeware range.

Poundland retail director Austin Cooke said: “Whether you’re a regular customer or popping in for the first time, the TV show gives an insight into the hard work and enthusiasm of our people as we bring customers more of what they want.”
