TWO more people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Sussex.

The latest figures show 116 people had died in hospitals run by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust as of 5pm yesterday, up by two on Wednesday’s figure.

No other deaths were reported at any other Sussex healthcare trust, according to data released by NHS England.

In total, 143 new cases were recorded across Sussex, which is down by 103 on the previous day.

In Brighton and Hove there were 11 new cases, compared to 29 recorded yesterday. It brings the total number of cases recorded in the city since the pandemic hit to 3,992.

West Sussex recorded 60 more cases, down from 109 yesterday. It means 8,913 people have tested positive in the region, since Covid-19 hit.

East Sussex recorded the highest number of new cases at 72, which is down from 108 reported yesterday. So far, 5,204 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the region.

Across the UK, 16,022 new cases were recorded, which is 2,191 fewer cases than the previous day. It means 1,589,301 people have now tested positive.

Nationally, 521 fatalities were recorded, bringing the total death toll to 57,551.
