MORE than 50 coronavirus cases have been reported across Brighton and Hove in the last 24 hours, official figures show.

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in the area increased by 54 over the last 24 hours.

Public Health England figures show that 2,343 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on yesterday, up from 2,289 at the same time on Wednesday.

There were 56 new cases in East Sussex, making its total 3,154 since the start of the pandemic in March.

There were 111 new cases in West Sussex where the total is now 5,524.

Brighton and Hove’s cases were among the 72,322 recorded across the South East, a figure which rose by 1,424 over the period.

Across the United Kingdom, the number of recorded cases increased by 23,065 over the period to 965,340.

A further 280 people have died within 28 days of testing positive.

The rate of infection in Brighton and Hove now stands at 806 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 1,420. This trend is the same for,East Sussex where the rate of infection now stands at 566 cases per 100,000 people.
