A COUNCILLOR is installing poppies up the lampposts on his estate to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
For the last three years Dave Harris (Lab, Berechurch) has invited residents to sponsor a poppy either in memory of a loved one or on behalf of a businesses or organisation.
For each poppy Mr Harris collects £15, which is donated to the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal in November.
So far this year, more than 30 poppies have already been installed, with more set to go up before Remembrance Sunday.
Mr Harris said: "With the Poppy Appeal looking very different this year, due to social distancing, the poppies will do a couple things.
"One is give a visual impact on my estate streets, second they will allow residents to feel a part of the salute to the armed forces who have gone before.
"All the poppies will stay up until a day or two after Remembrance Day, November 11."
