SUTTON has been recognised for being home to three of the 'very best parks in the world' by Green Flag Awards.

Green Flag Awards, is an international mark of quality, which recognises the best green spaces across the country and the world.

The award, judged and given annually, is a sign that a park or open space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is well maintained and has excellent facilities.

The Grove Park is the latest green space in Sutton to be accredited the award.

It now joins two other spaces in Sutton, Beddington Park & The Grange and Manor Park which successfully retained their Green Flag status this year.

Councillor Manuel Abellan, Chair of the Environment and Neighbourhood Committee at Sutton Council, said:

“We have ambitious plans for our parks and open spaces and are very proud to be one of London’s greenest boroughs.

“We know that residents take great pride in their parks and open spaces and the 89 parks in the borough have been a lifeline for many over the last few months for daily exercise, to get some fresh air or to improve their mental wellbeing.

“It’s fantastic to receive this prestigious Green Flag Award.

"I would like to thank and pay testament to our hard-working volunteers across the borough, our contractor, idverde and the Council’s Parks & Open Spaces Team who help to maintain such high standards in Sutton’s parks and open spaces.”
