A 14-YEAR-OLD girl has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police detained the teenager late last night, more than 24 hours after a young man was stabbed to death in Russell Way, Three Bridges, Crawley.

A 21-year-old man from London was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Armed officers were called to the scene of the crime in Crawley at 9pm on Tuesday and found a severely injured 24-year-old man.

The Argus:

Paramedics and the air ambulance were fast to respond but, despite providing specialist care to the victim, his life could not be saved and he died at the scene.

Sussex Police said the man had been stabbed, and launched a large-scale manhunt as officers attempted to track down a suspect.

The force said the operation, Operation Parkhead, was a murder inquiry.

The Argus:

Forensics teams attended the scene of the stabbing and the area was cordoned off as investigations into the incident began.

Markers were set out on an area of pavement nearby and officers were seen taking photographs as they collected evidence from the site.

Yesterday afternoon, shortly after 3.30pm, Sussex Police issued an updated statement to say the hunt for a murder suspect was still underway and no one had yet been traced.

The Argus:

Late last night, the force made two arrests in connection with the stabbing.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "A 14-year-old girl from Crawley was arrested in south London at about 10.20pm yesterday on suspicion of murder.

"A 21-year-old man from London was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

"Anyone with information about the incident is asked to report online or call 101 quoting Operation Parkhead."
