A PRIMARY school teacher from Sussex and her husband look set to be the first successful couple on Channel 4’s Married at First Sight.

Michelle Jenkins, 25 from Hastings, married Owen Jenkins, 31 from Sheffield despite meeting for the first time at the altar.

In the final episode of the Channel 4 reality-TV series, the couple said they planned to stay together and even discussed the idea of having children.

While Michelle, who teaches at a primary school in Brighton, wanted to continue living in the South to be closer to friends and family, Owen was keen to return to his hometown of Sheffield.

Speaking to her friends and sister Kat on Hastings Beach, Michelle explained: 'Do I convert to being a Northerner like some people, or do I stay down south?'

She told the camera: 'There is a lot to leave behind in the south, my family and friends, a lot of them are in the south.

'I'm leaving behind work, but in the north, there is Owen.'

In order to decide whether to swap Sussex for Sheffield, Michelle visited Owen's home in South Yorkshire.

The IT Manager wanted to show Michelle the house he has just bought which would, if she relocates, become their marital home At the end of the episode, the couple met with the experts who originally matched them up to reveal whether they wanted to stay together after the experiment.

Michelle explained she plans to move to Sheffield to stay with Owen.

She said: 'I feel so incredibly lucky that I've found Owen and we love each other.'

Six months on from their wedding day, Michelle said: 'I feel like it's gone so quickly. It is mad, this time a year ago, i was living in a completely different place, working in a different place.

“Life has totally changed but everything has been great about it.”

Owen said they had discussed conversations about children, saying: “We talked about kids, and we think three or four years maybe.”

The Channel 4 reality show first aired in 2014, however there has not yet been a successful marriage as a result of the experimental reality show.

The show matches singles with a partner chosen for them by a team of relationship experts.

Newly matched couples do not meet their future spouse until they walk down the aisle on their wedding day.
