POLICE cordoned off a road after an unexploded shell was found yesterday afternoon (September 30 ).
Residents of Dupont Road were evacuated from their homes after a suspected wartime shell was found at around 2 pm.
It was reported that it was discovered whilst a resident was having "foundations dug for a rear extension."
A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "Police were called to reports of an unexploded ordnance in Dunpont Road, Raynes Park.
"Specialist officers attended and identified an unexploded artillery shell which was taken away to be made safe and disposed of."
Dunpont Road reopened at around 4pm the same day.
