Mitcham and Carshalton Rugby Club have announced several developments since its season was put to a halt due to the pandemic.

After an unbeaten season 2019/20, which saw Mitcham gain promotion back into Surrey 4, win the Surrey 4 Chairman's Cup, a Surrey T.R.E.D.S award, and a Mastercard Community Award, the club had to conclude their season prematurely.

Whilst in lockdown, the club decided to revamp their facilities and launch a "very active recruitment drive".

The club has recently introduced the 'Project 75' initiative, an ambitious plan which will see the club aim to reach 75 active players before Christmas.

Wimbledon Times:

In March 2018, the club had just eight registered players and now has nearly fifty.

Mitcham is also recruiting for a women's side, with "numbers looking promising already."

Director of Rugby, Ed Marsh, says he is thrilled with the initial numbers and the club's development.

He said: "We are delighted to be expanding the club into women's rugby.

"This is a fundamental aspect of our culture and ethos here at Mitcham and Carshalton - rugby for all!

"We intend to grow the women's side of the club over the coming months and years.

"Giving them all the support, coaching and facilities they need, promoting the 'one club' mentality."

Wimbledon Times:

After weeks of hard work, the club's development with their changing rooms is nearly complete.

The redevelopment has created space for four separate changing rooms and a referee's room / physio room.

The club has also developed their exterior and launched their 'Signal Beer Garden' in Mitcham on September 12.

Despite considerable uncertainty in grassroots rugby, Mitcham and Carshalton are working hard for their return to Surrey 4.

The club would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved with the redevelopments.
