A church celebrated its 20th anniversary by expanding its food distribution programme last week.

Power Centre Church on London Rd celebrated the milestone with their registered charity, Wood World Missions, on September 10.

The church which first launched its food and clothes bank 10-years-ago, wanted to 'intensify' support by inviting the community to collect essentials every Thursday.

Founders, Bishop Dr. William Wood and Bishop Dr. Mercy Wood, hope to help Mitcham residents who visit the Job Centre and people living in the Morden area.

The founders aim to reach more people who have been affected by Covid-19.

The celebration included; Deputy Mayor of Merton, Councillor Edward Foley, Former Mayor Agatha Mary Akyigyina, MP Siobhain McDonagh and other community leaders.

Bishop Dr. William Wood and Bishop Dr. Mercy Wood said: "During this pandemic many people have lost their jobs.

"Some have been made redundant. More have also been furloughed and are unable to meet the needs of their families.

"Some have also died unexpectedly leaving their families in need.

Wimbledon Times:

"The intensification of this Food and Clothes Distribution will assist those in need greatly.

"We are being supported in this project by local stores such as Morrisons and Asda.

"God richly bless them for all their support for the needy in these difficult times.

"The church would like to appeal to any individuals or stores in the community and beyond who feel that they could support the project for it to continue."

The project is open every Thursday between 10am to 12pm.
