TWO cars left the road and were badly damaged in a crash.

The A29 Stane Street near Pulborough is currently closed as a result of the collision with ambulance and fire crews at the scene.

A spokesman for Billingshurst Fire Station, which has a team at the site of the crash, said: "The A29 Stane Street, between Adversane cross roads and Gay Street Lane, is closed due to a two car collision.

" No persons were trapped and the scene has been made safe by the fire service.

The Argus:

"Police are hoping to reopen the road after the vehicles are recovered."

A representative for the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service urged drivers to avoid the area shortly after 3pm.

The collision was first reported to the AA at about 2pm.

A spokesman for the service said: "The road is closed and there is queueing traffic due to a crash involving two cars on the A29 Stane Street both ways from the B2133 Adversane Lane to Gay Street Lane."

The road was reported to have been cleared and reopened by 5pm.
