The results of a massive patient-led survey of GP services across South West London have been published.

Over 70,000 surveys were sent to GP patients across South West London of which a total of 19,067 were completed, providing the survey with a large sample size.

The GP Patient Survey revealed how doctors' surgeries across Wandsworth, Croydon, Sutton, Merton, Kingston and Richmond were rated for 2020.

Overall, it found that between 71 and 85 per cent of patients in the South West of the city would describe their experiences at the GP as good, one the highest rates of any region in London.

Among the best "overall" performing surgeries, rated on the percentage of patients who described their experience as "good", were:

  • The Vineyard Hill Road Surgery, Wimbledon (98 per cent)
  • Mitchley Avenue Practice, Croydon (98 per cent)
  • The Grove Road Practice, Sutton (97 per cent)
  • The Wrythe Green Surgery, Carshalton (97 per cent)
  • Richmond Medical Group, Richmond (97 per cent)

Meanwhile, the worst overall performers rated on the same criteria included:

  • Rowans Surgery, Norbury (40 per cent)
  • Mitcham Family Practice, Mitcham (62 per cent)
  • Cheam GP Centre, Cheam (64 per cent)
  • The Whitehorse Practice, Croydon (66 per cent)
  • Faccini House Surgery, Morden (66 per cent)

Some of the same South West London surgeries were named in the top 5 best and worst regarding appointments in the survey.

In terms of the experience of making an appointment, the following GP's surgeries were ranked highest by the percentage of "good" responses from patients:

  • Mitchley Avenue Practice, Croydon (99 per cent)
  • Park Road Medical Centre, Carshalton (96 per cent)
  • The Vineyard Hill Road Surgery, Wimbledon (94 per cent)
  • Johnson, Sheen Lane, Richmond (93 per cent)
  • Upper Norwood Group Practice, Croydon (93 per cent)

On the other hand, the following surgeries performed among the worst rated for making appointments when judged on the same criteria:

  • Rowans Surgery, Norbury (23 per cent)
  • East Croydon Medical Centre, Croydon (36 per cent)
  • Portland Medical Centre, Croydon (39 per cent)
  • The Orchard Practice, Chessington (45 per cent)
  • Cheam GP Centre, Cheam (47 per cent)

Regarding managing patients' specific medical conditions, a mix of different surgeries in South West London were named among patients' best experiences.

The following surgeries had the highest percentage of patients saying they have had enough support from the surgery to manage their health conditions:

  • Brunswick Surgery, Surbiton (97 per cent)
  • Glebe Road Surgery, Sheen (95 per cent)
