A man in his thirties has died in Penge, south east London, early this morning (July 12) after suffering gunshot wounds.

The Met Police said the man had collapsed in Croydon Road near the junction with Tremaine Road in Penge early on Sunday morning, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A large police presence has been reported in and around Bromley during the morning, and the scene of the incident is believed to be next to The Mitre pub at the entrance to Betts Park.

Police were called to the scene by the London Ambulance Service at around 2:20am, July 12, and pronouned the victim, a man in his 30s, as dead.

Enquiries are underway to identify the man and inform his next of kin.

Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime are investigating, and believe the man died from gunshot injuries.

A crime scene remains in place in Croydon Road and a full forensic examination is ongoing.

Police are currently awaiting the results of the post-mortem examinition, and there have been no arrests at this stage.
