A charity is appealing for help to fund transport to reach the vulnerable across, Sutton, New Malden, Kingston, Surbiton and surrounding areas.

'Save the World Club' in New Malden, has been feeding the vulnerable for 12-years with the help of a van and supermarket donations.

However, Des Kay, founder of Save The World Club, says their van which has completed 35-years of charitable service has broken down- leaving volunteers using personal vehicles to deliver food across the boroughs.

During the UK lockdown, the team has delivered more than £1000 worth of food and hopes the fundraiser will help them continue to do so.

Wimbledon Times:

The charity says, the van will make an 'enormous difference' to those in poverty and will allow more food to be picked-up from their supermarket supporters such as Aldi.

Volunteer at Save The World Club, John Hewlett said: "We have been collecting surplus food from supermarkets for 12 years and the new van will enable us to maintain partnerships with all the big supermarket chains, including Aldi, Lidl, M&S, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose.

"We aim to buy, tax and insure this van which will make an enormous difference to those in poverty and need in this large area.

"The van will give us the capacity to collect even more stock from ALDI for daily distribution to the vulnerable members of the community.

Wimbledon Times:

"Since 2019, Save The World Club has provided more than 30,000 meals to those most in need.

"At present, the volunteers are using their own vehicles, which limits both the collection and the distribution.

"We badly need a large van to help facilitate a larger central collection and distribution which of course will mean reaching more families."
