Usually, trees bloom flowers, but this special tree blooms face masks...

Syebvonne Nguyen, of Queen Mary Avenue in Morden, decided to set up a blooming tree to help distribute face masks in line with the restriction ease.

Since the start of the pandemic, Syebvonne and her friend Nisha Thiru, have been creating hundreds of masks for key workers with their volunteer group, Community Champions.

With the government's announcement of shops reopening, the pair decided there wouldn't be a better time to launch the blooming tree.

Wimbledon Times:

The tree made its debut on Saturday, June 13, and plans to bloom as many masks as possible.

Syebvonne Nguyen, said: "I set up the tree to introduce the idea to the community, with the hopes of a pollination effect.

"I hope people will create their own trees across the area, to reach as many people as possible.

"The tree will help build community spirit and get people talking to each other.

Wimbledon Times:

"This will hopefully make the community stronger and allow people to meet whilst picking up their masks and discovering common interests.

"The response so far has been overwhelming- people queued on Sunday.

"The tree will equip people with protection and reach those in greater need."

Syebvonne is asking for people to kindly donate £2 which will be put back into the community and help fund materials to sew more masks.

Those who collect their mask from the blooming tree will be able to find a QR code poster and a round tub to donate.

The blooming tree project will be extended to schools across the borough in the coming weeks.
