A police cordon was set up yesterday after a suspected hit and run near St John Fisher Church in Raynes Park.
Police are understood to have been called to reports of a woman hit by a van, on Cannon Hill Lane at around 6.48 pm.
The vehicle said to be a white transit van with green markings, reportedly exceeded speeding limits as he fled the scene.
The victim has been described as a mixed-race female in her early twenties, with serious injuries.
An eyewitness said: "I and my husband heard a thud and thought someone had hit our car so we went outside.
"We saw a girl underneath a van, her shoe was three cars down.
"We thought the poor girl was dead.
"She did sit up, but her leg was completely broken.
"She had a huge bump to the head and badly grazed elbows with bones showing.
"We didn't see her get hit, but my husband spoke to the Iceland van driver who witnessed the incident, he said the suspect just drove off.
"We've had so many accidents along the stretch of the road.
"All signs have been made 20mph but no one seems to take any notice.
"We are praying she is ok."
