A critical volunteer group have raised over £64,000 in donations for hospital staff at St Georges Hospital in just three weeks.

'Critical NHS' was inspired by Anthea Allen, a Senior Sister at St George's hospital.

Anthea contacted her friend, Janneke Diemel, and said it would be great if the community could get together and support St Georges Hospital.

In response, Janneke Diemel and her husband, Niall Barrett, set up 'Critical NHS.'

Wimbledon Times:

'Critical NHS' set out to support staff at St Georges hospital by contacting local businesses in Tooting and surrounding areas.

The group set up a Pay Pal pool and were able to fund food from donations.

Food contributions came from:

  • Fire Away Pizza in Mitcham Lane
  • Mustard Foods in Wimbledon
  • The Green Floor in Mitcham Lane
  • Hob in Balham
  • Pop Up Greek in Streatham
  • Spice Village in Tooting

Donations haven't stopped with just food, as companies such as Lush Wimbledon also stepped forward with donations.

Wimbledon Times:

Morris Tolaram, 38, from Tooting, has been a driving force behind the volunteer group and has helped lift the strain by delivering food to  staff at the hospital.

Morris Tolaram said: "I got involved with the Critical NHS team as I am the former PE teacher to all three of Janneke & Niall's children.

"I wanted to help support the critical care front line staff and support our local shops and restaurants, so I teamed up with critical NHS.

"I am taken back by the generous donations from the public and businesses.

"The response from the community has been truly amazing - I can only thank everyone who has contributed no matter how big or small, every little helps."
