A volunteer from the Kew Gardens Rotary Club will be awarded a prestigious volunteering award for his role in helping poor communities get access to clean water.
James Onions will collect his award at Rotary's national Champions Awards for his instrumental role in the Sand Dams project.
The project was set up in collaboration with charity Excellent Development and supports drylands communities to build sand dams, a cost-effective method of catching and storing rainwater.
From this initiative, over 100,000 people in dry land communities have access to safe water with Rotary's support.
The search for the Champions Awards winners was carried out across Rotary’s vibrant network of over 1,700 Rotary clubs, with Rotary members and also members of the public having their extraordinary work recognised.
This ranged from fitting prosthetic limbs on amputees in Pakistan to supporting adults with learning difficulties gain employment opportunities.
Mr Onions will be among 12 other winners receiving a Champions of Change award at the ceremony, which will be held on May 2 in Birmingham.
