A Twickenham resident and Second World War veteran has celebrated his 100th birthday.

Dennis George Neale, who was born in Chelsea and attended Battersea Grammar School, turned 100 on February 16 - ironically the same day Storm Dennis hit the UK.

He later moved to East Sheen before settling in Twickenham in 1970.

Mr Neale served in the Army during World War II and was deployed to El-Alamein in Egypt where he spent time in the desert.

He was also sent to Italy - where he sustained an injury after the truck that he was in drove over a land mine, before being sent to Germany as the war came to end.

After the war, he married twice, latterly to Cynthia Greenaway from Mortlake, and the couple stayed together for 50 years before she passed away in 2010.

Mr Neale then took up employment in the retail industry and worked for Harrods - a luxury department store in Knightsbridge, Owen Owen Richmond and the National Trust shop at Ham House.

He celebrated his birthday with his son Tim Neale, his daughter Sarah Neale, three of his grandchildren, his great-grandson, niece, neighbours and former colleagues from the Whitton Network.

Mr Neale also received a card from The Queen which wished him a 'happy birthday' and also had a personal message.
