A 13-room house of multiple occupancy (HMO) could be built on top of the Saints and Sinners pub in Thornton Heath.

A planning application has been lodged for a three-storey extension at the back of the pub which sits on the corner of Mayday Road and London Road.

The pub would still operate on the ground floor.

The upper floors of Saints and Sinners are currently used as a duplex flat.

Up to six of the new rooms would share a kitchen, while some of the bigger units would have a kitchenette.

All of the rooms would have en-suite bathrooms.

No parking spaces would be provided as part of the plans, but there would be space to store 10 bicycles.

The application was submitted by Howard Fairbain Project Services on behalf of John Dempsey.

It said: “The proposal is a well-considered and appropriate design, wholly in keeping with the existing character of the area. It will provide 13 good-sized HMO units, and good quality amenity space for the residents and the pub.”

It adds that it will enhance the street scene along Mayday Road but that there will be no changes to the appearance of the building from London Road.

The proposals were submitted on Tuesday (November 12) and a decision is expected to be made by January 2020.
