A teacher from a Putney school has been highly-commended with a prestigious award.

Mrs Dunning is the English Lead at Falcons School for Girls and was presented with the Alpha Plus Group Innovation Award for Teaching and Educational Resources 2019.

She received the accolade for her work in forming and supporting the school’s eco-committee.

The award recognises the introduction of the committee, also known as the ‘Eco Warriors’, alongside the subsequent initiatives, that Mrs Dunning and the team of pupils have put into place to ensure that the school is being considerate of the environment.

Key initiatives introduced include; old battery collection boxes, litter picks in the local community, taking part in the Thames 21 Big Clean, planting flowers to encourage bees, and pupils encouraging staff members to turn off lights.

Headmistress at Falcons School, Sara Williams-Ryan said: “This exceptional award is testament to Mrs Dunning’s determination and commitment to provide our school community with this invaluable educational resource, enabling our pupils to work together to develop knowledge and environmental awareness.

"We are delighted that she has been recognised for her work.

“I would like to extend my congratulations and thanks to not only Mrs Dunning, but also the team of Eco Warriors for the work they do to make us all more aware about such an important matter.”

The next step in the Eco-committee’s plan is to become a Green Flag school, an internationally recognised award for excellence in environmental action and learning.
