Heavy rain is expected to fall over London this weekend, with a weather front coming up from the south west of England.

Forecasts currently show as much as 20mm of rain falling between now and Monday, with disruption expected as roads and drains could struggle with the continuous rainfall.

With some scattered showers and gusty winds throughout Saturday, the worst of the weather looks set to hit London at around 7-8pm this evening, with heavy rainfall expected throughout the night.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Today a few showers are possible, but most places will remain dry with bright or sunny spells before cloud increases from the west this afternoon.

“Rain, often heavy, will quickly spread to remaining areas this evening. Then later tonight heavy showers will replace the rain. Becoming windy, with coastal gales. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

“On Sunday, bright or sunny intervals and scattered heavy, perhaps thundery, showers until the evening when cloud and outbreaks of light rain arrive from the northwest.”

The past week has seen torrential downpour in some areas, with drains overflowing and river levels high in parts of Surrey and Kent.

Next week’s forecast currently looks a little less wet, but will likely be unsettled with strong winds anticipated throughout much of the week.
