A group of ex-AFC Wimbledon players are set to reunite under sad circumstances.

Antonio Walker was part of the junior Dons squads which reached the last-16 of the FA Youth Cup back in 2016 and 2017.

Now a player for Whyteleafe FC, Antonio recently received the devastating news that his mum Angelica had suffered a heart attack on the way to one of his games and sadly passed away. This left the 20-year-old and his brother without a mother and a father.

Current Raynes Park Vale player Seanan McKillop shared the field with Antonio at Wimbledon and said Angelica was a much-loved figure around the club.

"Antonio was a great player who was liked by many people," he told the Wimbledon Times.

"His mother Angelica came to all the games and was loved by everyone.

"She was a lovely woman who cared for everyone and always put a smile on people's faces."

Now Seanan, alongside some of his former Wimbledon teammates, are to take on the BetVictor South Eastern Division side Whyteleafe in a charity game in which all proceeds will go towards Antonio and his family.

Lead professional phase coach and loan manager for Wimbledon, Mark Robinson, added to the condolences.

"She was one of life’s great characters," he said speaking of Angelica

"I remember that we used to do three reviews a season with the academy players and she would come in and say ‘I don’t know a lot about football’, but then she would talk with great knowledge and depth. She was a wonderful woman and it is really sad news.

“We want to come together for this because in those two years that group including Antonio really stepped up the mark for the academy and the youth team.

"Our FA Youth Cup record during those two years was better than big clubs, including Liverpool and Southampton.

"They were a really good group that understood the club and loved playing for the club. They have asked if we can get as many of the boys together as possible.

"Thankfully, a lot of the lads were contacting me as soon as they heard the news anyway. That showed the bond we had."

The match will take place at Church Lane, Whyteleafe, on Thursday, October 3 with a 7.30pm kick-off.
