Lee Bowyer believes he has enough quality in his strike force to cope with the loss of injured top scorer Lyle Taylor.

The talismanic forward has been the Addicks stand out performer this season with five goals and an assist before picking up a knee ligament injury whilst on international duty with Montserrat a forntnight ago.

Taylor missed last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Birmingham at The Valley, the first game the Addicks failed to find the back of the net this season and also brought an end to their unbeaten start to the campaign.

“He’s going to be out for a while,” Bowyer said of his top marksman.

“We don’t know exactly how long he’ll be out but he’ll wear a brace for a few weeks.

“We’ll know more when he comes out of it.”

Although no timeframe has been put on his return, former Addick, play-off hero and now Preston defender Pat Bauer also suffered a similar injury last season and was sidelined for two months.

Bowyer will of course be hoping the 29-year-old returns sooner rather than later but also revealed he felt confident with those fit in his strike-force to step up, and expects the to, beginning at Wigan on Saturday.

Against Birmingham, West Brom’s on-loan attacker Jonathan Leko and Israeli international Tomer Hemed lead the line.

“I thought our two-up top at the weekend did well,” he said.

“Leko at times complicated things but I’ve spoken to him about that.

“Tomer is getting his fitness up, so it will work.

“Tomer is a very good player, an international.

“He brings something different to what Lyle brings, and Leko is a player that can make something out of nothing.

“We’re still going to create changes, we just didn’t take them against Birmingham but hopefully we can on the weekend.”

Chuks Aneke and Macauley Bonne are two alternatives who can lead the line for Bowyer but with Aneke slowly coming back from injury and Bonne untested at this level, a Hemed-Leko front two is expected at the DW Stadium.
