Round the Borough Hike is returning to Epsom and Ewell this weekend (September 7).

Saturday's much-loved ramble is one of two active events developed by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council (EEBC).

As the Comet reported in May, its sister event — Round the Borough Bike — took place this Spring and witnessed hundreds of residents and visitors tour some of the most scenic landscapes the borough has to offer.

This year's event follows the same course and features highlights including Epsom Downs, Nonsuch Park and Epsom Common Nature Reserve.

EEBC says that both events "aim to build on the London 2012 Olympic legacy and the success of hosting Stage 7 of the Tour of Britain in 2013."

Consequently, the council are actively encouraging participation and pointed residents towards the online registration (on the EEBC website).

An interactive google map that shows the entire route and signposts numerous sights and travel information on the route itself has also been made available on the council site ahead of Saturday's event.

"The Round the Borough Hike and Bike is an off-road route approximately 20 miles long that joins up the beautiful spaces in Epsom and Ewell including; the Epsom Downs, Epsom Common Local Nature Reserve (LNR), Nonsuch Park, the Hogsmill LNR and Horton Country Park LNR," a spokesperson for EEBC said, describing the circular route around the borough.

The hike is free to enter and participants who register beforehand will get a unique certificate showing their participation.

As an added incentive, EEBC said commemorative medals for all those who complete the extensive 20-mile course in full would be awarded at the finish line at Horton Country Park LNR.

Saturday's event will be signposted and marshalled throughout the course, and EEBC urged budding volunteers to register as marshals on their website beforehand.

The hike gets underway from 9am on Saturday, and the route will be marshalled through to 5pm.
