Police have arrested a 20-year-old man after a girl was raped in public toilets in Cobham last week.

As the Comet reported previously, the sexual assault took place last Thursday (August 22) in the toilets behind the British Legion on Hollyhedge Road, Cobham.

On Friday (August 30) Surrey Police, who are investigating the crime, said they had made an arrest related to the incident.

Police also revealed that the victim was 13 years old.

In a statement sent to the Comet, a spokesperson for the county police force said:

"Earlier today (August 30) we arrested a 20 year old man from Uxbridge in connection with the rape of a 13 year old girl last Thursday (August 22) at a public toilets in Cobham.

"He is currently in custody."

A spokesperson for Surrey Police told the Comet last week that after they were notified of the rape, officers established a cordon that was in place between 10pm (August 24) and 4.30pm (August 25) so that a forensic investigation of the toilet block could take place.

The investigation continues and police are still appealing for witnesses.
