A pedestrian was killed and a motorcyclist left in a critical condition after a serious crash in Battersea on Friday night (August 30).

The fatal crash happened on Battersea Park Road at around 8.20pm, police said.

Met Police and London Ambulance Service (LAS) both rushed response teams to attend the scene.

Authorities were forced to close Battersea Bridge temporarily as a result of the crash, but it was re-opened to traffic by around 8am on Saturday morning.

In a statement published on Saturday, police offered further details of the deadly crash and said they had launched an investigation into what happened.

"At around 8.20pm on Friday, 30 August, police were called to a seriously injured motorcyclist and pedestrian in Battersea Park Road, SW11.

"The pedestrian — a 34-year-old woman — died as a result of her injuries.

"The rider of the motorcycle — a 40-year-old man — was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

"Officers believe they know the identity of both the man and the woman. They are in the process of notifying next of kin.

"Post-mortem examinations and formal identification will be arranged in due course," a spokesperson for the Met said.

The Met asked anyone who witnessed the incident to call their officers at Merton traffic garage on 020 8543 5157.

A spokesperson added that investigators also want to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage that would assist their investigation.
