People wishing to refill their water bottles while out and about need not look any further than Mitcham town centre.

Earlier this year it was announced that four public water fountains would be erected in Merton.

The first of those has since been installed with three more at Raynes Park Station, Morden Tube Station and Colliers Wood Tube Station still to come.

Steve Spencer, chief operating officer at Thames Water who partnered with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan on this project said: “London’s tap water is world class and we’re celebrating this by building a network of water fountains so it’s even more accessible to people on the move.”

“Tap water is incredible value for money and just as good as bottled water but without the plastic packaging so we want people to enjoy it by using the fountains. Together we can all drive down plastic waste from single-use water bottles, helping to care for our rivers and oceans, now and for generations to come.”

The fountain in Majestic Way has been topped with a distinctive blue water droplet to make it as easy as possible for people to spot.

All four of Merton's fountains will undergo regular safety and quality inspection by Thames Water engineers.
