BOLTON Lads and Girls Club has been given more than £100,000 by BBC Children in Need.

The £112,028 grant has been allocated to the youth club as part of the charity's Main Grants Programme.

Bolton Lads and Girls Club will use the money, over three years, to deliver one to one mentoring and group activities to vulnerable children and young people in Bolton.

The project will support young people through difficult times, encourage them to develop their self-esteem and self-confidence, help them to build resilience and improve their emotional wellbeing.

Katie Bridge, Grants and Trusts Fundraising Officer at Bolton Lads and Girls Club said: “We’re very pleased to hear that we have been awarded this funding from BBC Children in Need, which will provide crucial support to vulnerable young people in our community and help them to reach their potential.”

Across Bolton, BBC Children in Need is currently funding 12 projects to a value of more than £725,000.

BBC Children in Need currently awards grants at six points during the year and funds two types of grants. The Main Grants Programme is for grants over £10,000 per year to support projects for up to three years. Meanwhile, the Small Grants Programme supports projects for up to three years, and includes grants up to and including £10,000 per year.

Speaking of the new grants, Elizabeth Myers, Regional Head of the North at BBC Children in Need said: “It’s always a great privilege to award new funding to projects doing fantastic work in their communities, like Bolton Lads and Girls Club. We look forward to seeing the positive impact that this project will have on the children and young people that they support over the coming years.”

The newly awarded grant for Bolton Lads and Girls Club comes as BBC Children in Need celebrated raising £58 million for its 2018 appeal. Money was raised through activities such as rambles, dance-a-thons, duck races, sky diving, quiz nights and bake sales.
