The group in charge of organising a music festival where four men were stabbed have said that "robust safety measures" were in place.

The victims, aged 24, 27, 25 and 45 were all taken to hospital on Saturday, the first day of the Eastern Electrics festival at Morden Park.

Today a spokesman for Blue Fox Events which runs the festival confirmed the attacks happened at the event.

"All casualties were transferred to hospital after being treated on site by our medical team," the spokesman said.

"The police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and asking anyone with information that may help with their investigation to call 101.

"The safety of everyone on-site is our first priority and we will continue to work closely with the police, local authorities and our security staff to ensure a safe and secure environment at Eastern Electrics."

When asked by the Wimbledon Times what security measures were in place they responded with:

  • Full bag search
  • Full pat down, body search, and pockets emptied
  • Metal detection wanding
  • Drug detection dogs
  • Explosives detection dog

"In regards to the security procedures in place during the event, we deploy a number of robust security measures on everyone entering the festival site," the spokesman added.

"These measures were in place all weekend. On Sunday we had significantly less footfall and a smaller event site."

The techno music festival was granted a licence by Merton Council back in February, despite strong opposition from nearby residents.

A council spokeswoman said: “We were shocked to hear what happened in Morden Park on Saturday.

"Our thoughts are with those involved and their families. Merton is a very safe place and we take safety at events very seriously.

“Should an application be submitted to the council for an event of this nature in the future, past events would, of course, be taken into consideration.”
