Investigating police believe a 22-year-old man stabbed to death in Kidbrooke may have been the victim of a robbery gone wrong.

Police found the victim in a "garage area outdoors" on Tellson Avenue at 2.40pm yesterday, suffering multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital, but died at 8.55pm.

Police have since revealed they are considering robbery as a line of investigation, whilst not discounting other options.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard, of the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "We are working hard to establish the exact circumstances of this incident and while robbery is one potential motive we continue to keep an open mind.

"This attack happened in broad daylight and we urge anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to come forward and assist us with our investigation."

The victim, who has not been named, was the fifth person to be murdered in London in six days and the twentieth in just 27 days. Eleven of those victims have been stabbed.

There have been no arrests and police are appealing for witnesses.

Speaking to New shopper earlier, a neighbour, who has lived on the street for over two decades, said: "It’s so sad.

"It’s usually very safe. There’s a lot of school children that have arguments and fights but nothing like this."
