TWO world-class British athletes inspired children at a school to take up more sports.
Former Team GB 800m runner Jenny Meadows and champion pole vaulter Andy Sutcliffe visited the Sacred Heart RC Primary School in Blackburn.
The duo took part in the Athletes in School programme, which sees athletes run taster sport classes for children to get involved with and take up.
After visiting on Friday June 7, the children were very excited and enjoyed the classes.
PE co-ordinator and teacher at the school, Sahil Patel, said: “Physical Education is part of our pupils’ wellbeing.
"We encourage healthy competition as well as team work to enhance the overall development of all of our children.
"Everyone is encouraged to participate and improve themselves, at whatever level they are at.
“Jenny and Andy both spoke about the challenges, opportunities and set-backs throughout their careers. It was great that our children could show the Olympians their willingness to challenge themselves.”
Both athletes led classes in running and jumping. There was also a Q&A and students were given an insight into athletics and healthy living.
Jenny, a world championships bronze medallist in 2009, is the fourth-fastest British woman over 800m, behind Kelly Holmes, Kirsty Wade and Lynsey Sharp.
