A Thamesmead man who kicked and punched his ex-partner in a series of violent assaults has been slapped with a 20-month jail sentence.

Christopher Kelly, 39 and of Marshall Path, appeared before Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, May 20 where he admitted assault, common assault and assaulting an emergency worker.

The court heard how Kelly had attacked his ex-partner in Darnely Road, Strood earlier this year where he punched her in the face while sitting together in a car.

He fled the scene prior to police arrival.

When officers were able to speak with the victim, they heard how Kelly had assaulted her a few days before and thrown her mobile phone out of the window.

When he was asked to leave he tried to kick her and assaulted her again.

When officers went to arrest Kelly at his home on February 9, he violently lashed out at one cop, leaving him with neck injuries.

He was charged with two counts of assault and one count of assaulting an officer.

Speaking on the case, Investigating Officer PC Harry Lewis said: "Kelly inflicted painful and serious injuries on his former partner leaving anxious and fearful.

"His violent reaction towards the officer attending his home was not only unnecessary, but resulted in additional prison time being added to his sentence.

"Assaulting an officer who is simply just doing their job is just as unacceptable as attacking a former partner and the custodial sentence imposed by the courts is a reflection of the severity of the offences that Kelly committed."
