A WOMAN was pulled from the water and rushed to hospital after a midnight sea rescue.

In a post on social media, Shoreham Coastguard said it received reports of a person entering the water near Worthing Pier at 11.39pm yesterday.

It stated: “Shoreham RNLI and Shoreham Coastguard arrived on the scene and carried out immediate shoreline search.

“Shortly after the search began, RNLI located the casualty in the water and brought them ashore to Coastguard teams from Shoreham and Littlehampton.

“The casualty was carried from the shoreline and administered first aid, then handed over to South East Coast Ambulance Service for further care.”

Sussex Police were also called to the incident.

A spokeswoman said: “Police were made aware of a person seen going into the sea near Worthing Pier at about 11.25pm on Monday.

“Coastguard and lifeboat were on the scene and at 12.20am a woman was pulled from the sea.

“She was taken to hospital.”
