A man who admitted to raping a woman in a Carshalton alleyway during broad daylight is set to be sentenced.

Radian Cojocaru, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the offence whilst in custody after being arrested by police following the incident last October.

The 32-year-old will be sentenced at the conclusion of the trial regarding Gabriel Sebastian Bejinariu, who is also charged with the female victim’s rape.

Police were called to reports of the rape near to Alma Road at around 3pm on October 14 before the pair were both arrested and charged.

Cojocaru would be caught by officers close to the scene of the incident before Mr Bejinariu was detained in Kensington, west London, 10 days later.

Both were remanded into custody and last appeared in the dock at Croydon Crown Court, in Altyre Road, alongside a Romanian interpreter on February 1.

Cojocaru will be sentenced following Mr Bejinariu's trial, which begins on April 4 later this year and is expected to last between five and seven days.

He is charged with two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape, while Cojocaru pleaded guilty to rape but denied assault by penetration and assault by beating, according to court files.
