A group of Wimbledon students will help have the final say on what the best book of 2018 was.

Priory CofE School are helping judge the Blue Peter Book Awards for this year and are the only kids from London who can cast a vote.

Peter Haddock, head teacher at The Priory, said: “The whole school is so excited to be involved with Blue Peter and we’re delighted that we were chosen from all those schools.

"I’m pleased that it’s not just the 25 judges who are being encouraged to read more.

"Our school now has a real buzz for reading and all the kids are growing keen to pick up a book.”

Although adult judges chose the six shortlisted books, the winners will be decided by 12 schools from around the country.

There are already a few favourites starting to emerge.

“I enjoyed learning about digestion at school but I’ve learnt even more reading Professor Astro Cat’s Human Body Odyssey," one year six student at The Priory said.

"It’s amazing being a Blue Peter judge and I can’t wait to get a Blue Peter badge.

A boy in year five said: "I loved The House With Chicken Legs so much I thought it would be my favourite but I liked The Clockwork Crow and The Boy at the Back of the Class even more.”

The winner will be announced on March 7.
