Blue Monday, typically placed on the third Monday of January, is described as the most miserable day of the year, but why?

This year Blue Monday falls on January 21.

Awarded it's gloomy title due to a combination of post-Christmas blues, cold freezing nights and either a lack of alcohol due to dry January or just unpaid credit card bills.

However, the day was never intended to be a day to wallow, but a day to inspire people to do better and be better.

Originally set up by a scientist in 2014, it was originally sent out as a press release, however as usual the world took the idea and ran with it.

The Samaritans have even set up a day to help those in despair on the 'worst day of the year' with Brew Monday, to encourage people to open up and not be so isolated.

We suggest you do something to counteract the air of misery around Blue Monday and do something to kick start something exciting.
